Cheryl-Samantha Owen

Cheryl Samantha is a photographer specialising in conservation, the environment, science and ecology, with particular reference to Africa.

Born in Kenya, she developed a fierce drive to protect the continents resources, and decided to train in the biological sciences. She holds a First Class MSc in Conservation Biology from the Percy Fitzpatrick Institute, University of Cape Town and a BSc Honours in Environmental Science & Business from Imperial College, London. She has lived in Africa for most of her life, and her work has taken her across the continent and along its oceans and coasts, including expeditions to the remote Aldabra Atoll, Djibouti, and the Tana River Delta.

Her visual style combines an artists eye with both a scientists knowledge and a journalists sense of storytelling. Her work takes the viewers on a journey of discovery and stirs their curiosity. More than that, she provides a visual stimulus, which encourages us all to become better custodians of our planet.

The conservation results that follow when conservation photographers unite can be more powerful than trying to work alone. She dearly values being part of the iLCP fellowship in order to help maximize her potential for meeting conservation goals through photography.
