Revered in ancient India, the Rhinoceros is said to symbolize pious recluse in Hindu and Buddhist lore. Conservation efforts have brought the Greater One-horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) back from the brink of extinction. The vast grasslands of Kaziranga, India, are one of the last strongholds of this iconic species.
