Fossils of Our Ocean 1

Michele Westmorland

While on assignment in July 2021, I had the pleasure of not just diving the rich steep wall of West Caicos but to walk along the shoreline. I was in wonder of the patterns and designs of a fossilized hard rock coast. Two hundred million years ago, continents broke apart and the remnants are part of thousands of limestone rocks called oolite that fossilize plankton, algae, coral, and shellfish.
